I thought it was some kind of non-fiction that the details of the story are based on the solid foundation of Philippine history. But it is a creative fiction. Like what the presenter said before the dulayawit started, it is a replica of what happened to the Philippines and to the Filipinos during the Japanese invasion.

My analogy is, Felipe portrays Andres Bonifacio. It is not the brain capacity he used but his bravery. Nestor is a perfect representation for Jose Rizal. He used his intellect to outwit Japanese. And with it he started revolution. Sofia and the sisters stand for Filipinos who supported in faith and helped to care the wounded Filipinos. Amelia expressed the women who undergone such physical abuse and immoral cruelty under the demonic hands of Japanese soldiers. Pancho, the child, symbolizes great hope of the future that is why he must survive. He is the living witness and to continue what has to be done. His father, Gregorio, his grandfather, the Hukbalahap and other Filipinos who participated in revolution, they are the source of burning fire within. The father and mother of Amelia are somewhat gives the idea of there are Filipinos that welcome the Japanese with pleasure for the safety at stake. And the beloved Pres. Manuel L. Quezon with his wife, Auring, Jose P. Laurel, Gen. McArthur, Homma and the company, these are the people who also made the Filipinas 1941 a history.

The setting and props are simple but elegantly and properly executed. The actors are very professional. They are diverted into the character they portray. There is no exaggeration but a very suave way of acting. They are not trying hard. And it is so amazing that they have an entry of comedy considering the thought that it is a serious subject but never degrades the idea of it. The context of the play is all in one package. It has faith, faith in God and faith among Filipinos. It is about family, the brotherly love. Also it highlighted the undying love between the showcased couples. It talks about all aspect of life. It is physically, emotionally, mentally, socially and politically attached to us Filipinos.

I agree with what Atty. Tanada said after the play. He said that the government especially corruption will not change. But the art is. And that is through education. Educating the people about Philippine arts and culture. It is not just a history foretold but a living art within a person’s life because art is universal and will never die.
